Park Golf in Asahi

Asahi city, located in north east Chiba, is a great place to catch some waves or just some rays. Asahi’s expansive coastline is a great destination for surfers and summer beach goers and the flower fields and rolling hills make it perfect for seasonal hikers. Despite being on the ocean, the area has historically been known for its agriculture, and many of the produce there is fresh from the fields to your table.

On my most recent visit to the city, I had the opportunity to play my first game of Park Golf.

If you have never played park golf before, the best way I could describe it as a mix between golf and mini put. Golf in Japan is quite expensive due to the price of buying the land and building a course here. Park golf seems to have been born out of a desire to play the sport in as small an area as possible.

The ball, hole, and club are hilariously large but the course looks like a shrunken 18 hole course, complete with fairways, greens, and tiny sand traps.

History of the Game:
Park golf got its started Hokkaido in 1983 and has quickly spread throughout Japan. As enthusiasts continue to set of associations and spread their love of the game, games are even begging to pick up as far as South America.

It’s a great game for a family outing, so be sure to check and see if there’s any park golf in your area.
